EighteenAndFive is a blog created to write about Liverpool Football Club and the wider world of football.

Liverpool’s eighteen league championships and five European Cup wins are the envy of every other club in England. This blog will bring the latest and finest pieces on the greatest club in the country. Check back regularly to stay up to date with all things concerned with LFC, and the rest of the footballing community.

My name is Karl Matchett and I am the creator and author of this blog. I have written for several sports websites and blogs such as The Cray Column, LFCZone and BleacherReport.com, a prominent US-based sports website where I am a Featured Columnist on LFC and have written over 100 articles, totalling over 200.000 unique reads.

In addition I have contributed to and been published in the popular Liverpool FC fans’ magazine, Well Red, writing on hot topics such as Roy Hodgson and Luis Suarez.

Aside from my obvious passion for Liverpool Football Club I like to watch any football from any league really, though the Premier League and Spain’s Primera Division are the two I watch most frequently. In Spain I keep an eye on the performances and results of FC Barcelona and Villarreal. I also enjoyed watching Argentinian League football up until a year or so ago, when my television channel stopped carrying it! I especially liked to see Newell’s Old Boys before Joaquin Boghossian and Mauro Formica moved on.

My favourite formation would be based on a three man defence system; with just one main striker. I don’t like “wingers” and prefer passing sideways or backwards to losing the ball. Possession and movement is everything. I don’t like players to bottle out of challenges and I do like to see teams press as high up the pitch as possible.
